Following a successful box office run across 214 Australian cinemas this April, the Dance Academy movie is leaping onto screens across the world. The hit dance film will be taking centre stage, with an upcoming cinematic release to be held in The Netherlands.
The feature film spin-off of the beloved television series is set to be released this September in participating Dutch cinemas, as a result of steadfast international demand.
Peter Lang of ZDFE.junior says fans are looking forward to the film, and to seeing what happens next to Tara, Kat and “the gang’’:
“The series Dance Academy was sold to more than 150 countries worldwide and has an international fan base, including on VOD platforms such as Amazon, Netflix, maxdome and iTunes,” he says.
The film follows former ballet student Tara Webster, who was destined to become one of the top dancers of her generation, before a devastating injury crippled her career.
Over the last eighteen months, she has tried to move on and embrace life as a university student but cannot get over her dream of dancing professionally.
Haunted by her past, by the night she was injured, Tara embarks on a near impossible comeback, leaving her life and love behind in Sydney, determined to prove to the ballet world (not to mention herself) she still has what it takes.
At home, the Dance Academy film has recently been nominated for Screen Producers Australia award for “Best Feature Film Production”.
